Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important official stated the attack left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
